HoldFast’s
determined mission to improve road and rail safety in the UK has
been recognised with a Queen’s Award for Innovation 2002.
This is one of only 37 such awards granted to UK businesses in
the year.
WHAT THE AWARD STATED:
“Extensive dialogue with road and rail users and their respective
industries led to HoldFast Level Crossing Limited’s development
of a level crossing system which is safer for cyclists, pedestrians
and motorists, and reduces rail user delays. The system has achieved
a large and growing market share both in the UK and in global
markets, and corresponding commercial success.
“Made from recycled tyres, its modular construction provides
easy installation and extended life. The full depth rubber panels
avoid the need for metal framing that can cause track circuitry
problems.
“Circuitry failure regularly brings vehicular traffic and
trains to a standstill when road barriers fail. Corrosion leads
to panels tipping and surface becoming uneven.
“HoldFast panels keep the track bed, rail and rail fittings
dry with a current of air flowing over these areas of concern.”
Safety
First
HoldFast product research and development is geared to maintain
market lead in crossing safety and durability.
The HoldFast philosophy is one of reducing level crossing risks
need not be determined by budget but rather by choice of design,
materials and components.
"...A passion for safety has led to a Queen's Award for innovation....a
crossing system that makes it easier and smoother for cyclists,
motorists, lorry drivers and pedestrians to use level crossings."
Daily Telegraph 22 April 2002
"The award recognises the determined mission of Peter Coates
Smith, the managing director, to improve road and rail safety
by designing a level crossing system which is safer for cyclists, pedestrians,
trains and motorists and reduces delays for rail users."
The Times 22 April 2002
Safety
Through Product Innovation
The
HoldFast product range centres around safety innovations:
HoldFast
angle edge beam
Protects
the Highway approach from asphalt deterioration at the road approach
to the level crossing. It prevents the banana effect caused by
traffic pounding the crossing.
HoldFast
end restraint When
individual level crossing panels gap and a cyclist's bicycle wheels
drop into one of those gaps, the impending accident can be, and
has been, extremely serious.
A one
man installation, the HoldFast end restraint closes and clamps
shut tight any gapping on any modular crossing type or make.
